The Battle Of AMVCA’s Best; From Dominating The List To Holding The Golden Award

 

Picture this scene, Wale Ojo, Richard Mofe Damijo, and Lateef Adedimeji on the grand stage at the AMVCA fighting for one award. Imagine the scratching, the punches, and the karate kicks that could take place on that stage. That’s the picture the 10th AMVCA nominations list is painting and we can’t get over it. The best of the best are up against each other and it’s about to be an entertainment bloodbath. Here’s why we think so.

The movies from 2023 that had us longing for more were all nominated in the same category and now we wonder how the fans will come to a decision when putting in their votes.  In the category for Best Indigenous Language Film,  AMVCA is asking us to play the parents and pick our favourite child from these movies that won our hearts. The nominees are; JagunJagun, Ijogbon, and Orisa produced by the industry’s top actors/producers Femi Adebayo, Kunle Afolayan, and Odunlade Adekola respectively.

The Best Lead Actor category is even more competitive and not open to public voting. It features Wale Ojo from Breath of Life, Richard Mofe Damijo in The black book, and AdedimejiLateef in Jagun Jagun. These lead actors had us at the edge of our seats with their performance and now we have to watch on as only one will emerge victorious on the award night. Since this category is no longer open to public voting, the nominees will have to take their chances with the panel of judges.

Another category that’s covered in mystique is the Best Lead Actress category which is one for the history books as the likes of Funke Akindele for her role in A Tribe Of Judah, Omowunmi Dada in Asiri Ade, Ireti Doyle in The Origin: Madam KoiKoi, Kehinde Bankole for her role in Adire and other prominent actresses who got nominated will have to hope that their interpretation of roles and performance can help them clinch the golden statute since this category will also be decided by the panel.

One category that is sure to cause a public divide among fans is the category of Best Movie. With a lineup of A-list movies from 2023, the likes of Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, Breath of Life, Over The Bridge, Blood Vessel, A Tribe Called Judah, The Black Book, and Mami Wata and others. This is the true definition of a tough decision and being in the hot seat. The fans will have to go into fasting and prayer mode as the judges decide who deserves to win.

The Best Writing TV Series category nominated series that made us laugh, get emotional, and gain courage and it’s not any easier to pick a winner in a list that places Wura, Skinny Girl In Transit, Visa On Arrival, MTV Shuga Naija, Volume, Masquerades Of Aniedo and Slum King all together. How does one pick between such good shows with a clear conscience?

The 10th AMVCA also features other categories like; Best Digital Content, Best Indigenous Language (East Africa), Best Indigenous Language (South Africa), Best MultichoiceTalent Factory Movie, Best Scripted M-Net Original, Best Unscripted M-Net Original, Best Indigenous M-Net Original, Best Short Film, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Art Direction, Best Costume Design, Best Writing Movie, Best Documentary, Best Series (Scripted), Best Series (Unscripted), and  Best Director.

The beautiful thing about the AMVCA is that a part of the categories is decided by the fans and is a process that is open and unbiased. The non-voting categories are also decided by a panel of judges with not just decades of knowledge but impeccable reputations.

With the list out, it’s up to the nominees in the voting category to get their fans to vote.
