In a shocking revelation, African Alliance annuitants have disclosed that they are owed seven months' worth of unpaid benefits by the federal government, sparking concerns over the administration's commitment to social welfare.
More so, in a bid to draw attention to their plight, African Alliance annuitants have petitioned the federal government, through President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and ensure their matter is addressed to enable them live a better and comfortably after retirement.
The annuitants who have form cluster groups are pushing their issue leveraging their contacts as they call on the federal government to intervene and settle the outstanding debts.
One of the annuitants informed Insurancepeoplemagazine that life has not being easy for them, as they have been without any source of income for seven months, stating that some of their colleagues have died while awaiting the benefits.
He implored the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) to use its regulatory power to assist them.
He also suggested that to stem similar occurrence in the future, the
government should set up a body like Nigeria Deposit Insurance
Corporation (NDIC) to manage affairs of policyholders of failed
insurance companies which have left many in financial distress and uncertainty.
